The vampire stood outside, not sure if she had the strength to go in. It had been so long that she didn't know if she had the courage. After it was empty of Charlie, Bella had, with the help of the Cullens, purchased the small house that she had spent the last years of her human life in. She couldn't bear to let someone else live in it, it just wouldn't be right. Though she wasn't tired, she leaned against her car. She was a vampire but she still had to look human. She had been getting a lot better at that over the years. She remembered how difficult it had been to just move slowly at first. But unlike her human life, the vampire life came naturally to her. She thought about her human life. She had known coming into this that her human memories would be blurry, but like Rosalie had said, if she thought about them enough they wouldn't leave her. She made herself take time out of every day to remember her human life. She refused to forget her mother and father. Carlisle and Esme were wonderful in-laws-slash-adoptive parents, but she couldn't deny that she missed Charlie and her mom.
Bella had been coming to her old home at least once a week since the family had moved back to Forks. At one point she had thought about asking Edward if he wanted to move into the home, but if she couldn't walk into the house alone how was she supposed to live with Edward and Renesmee there? And besides, they would be kept in on the rare sunny days. No, she was just selfish and wanted the house so no one else could live in it. She didn't want her memories ruined by another family. In the back of her mind, Bella knew that it was a horrible thing to think, that another family could ruin the house. But it was her house. Or at least, it used to be.
With a sigh that wasn't necessary, Bella stood up straight and took one step forward, then another and another until she finally looked down at the ground. The front steps. "This is the furthest I've made it so far..." she mumbled to herself, hoping it was a good sign that she had actually met the steps.
